Yesterday I made the say goodbye to Facebook. Yes, you read that correctly; I’m waving peace out and going on my way. As someone who lives and breathes social media, this probably sounds completely insane. But let me explain.

What Social Media means to me

Social media is a great tool! It keeps us connected personally and gets us in front of thousands of people who may have never heard of us. That’s pretty awesome. I place social into a few different categories:

  1. “Social” Media. These are platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn. Platforms where you expected to interact and be social.
  2. Not So Social Media. These are platforms like Pinterest or YouTube, where we take in more than we interact
  3. Social Audio. This is Clubhouse where we listen but can also engage

I think these each have their strengths, but when it’s not used correctly, it’s not so great.

My Dilemna

A few years ago, I started to get an unsettled feeling about Facebook. I was aware of how manipulating it could be and how our feeds were biased and thought about leaving. I had someone in my industry tell me that I shouldn’t say how I feel about it because I would be cutting my own throat.

Ugh! They were right. I knew that. So I kept going along with it.

Listen to why I decided to say Goodbye to Facebook and let me know where you stand with it? I would love to hear from you!
